An added feature of our kit is that you can adjust for bump steer. The manual system is permanently lubricated, so there is no maintenance. If you choose a manual system (higher steering effort, but you save even more weight) no pump is required. On a power kit, your existing or readily available power steering pump and brackets can be used. The kit installs with basic hand tools in approximately 3-5 hours. Our kit is an entirely bolt on installation - absolutely no welding, cutting or drilling. As an additional benefit you get a lighter weight steering system - Steeroids TM - rack and pinion conversions save up to 15 lbs over your stock setup, depending on how your car was originally equipped. Steeroids TM rack and pinion conversions for 1955-1957 Corvettes with headers yields approximately 2.5 turns lock-to-lock (power system), and 2.9 turns (manual system). Power steering racks offer much quicker ratios over the stock steering. This is especially true ?on center? where modern cars with rack and pinion excel with the crisp response you have come to expect. The stock factory re-circulating ball steering box which came on the Corvette is vague and unresponsive.

When you drive your Corvette you deserve the greatly enhanced steering control and improved feel which a modern, well engineered rack and pinion steering system can deliver.

However, they didn?t exactly know how to put the ?sport? in the clunky, old technology steering design which dates back to the 1950?s.

They're heavy and were designed more with luxury than speed in mind, and it's difficult (but not impossible) to change the nature of the beast.Your C1 Corvette has always been America?s sports car. I came to realize that they really aren't so much big Mustangs, but rather small(-ish) Lincolns. I bought my 64 from a guy who saw these Birds as big muscle cars, and for a while that's the approach I took too. Take a look at the "Labor of Love" thread in the 61-63 Modified forum for a look at one approach. Were it me, the next step after that might be improvements in the rear suspension. My two cents: heavier sway bars would give you better corning with far less investment in time and money.

I've never seen this mod attempted on a Flair bird it would be an enormous effort on this car and result, I suspect, in very limited improvements in handling.
